What is Supermoto?
Supermoto is semi-new form of motorcycle racing. The concept of supermoto originally was thought up in the USA and then slowly started to fizzle away, however the Europeans picked it up and eventually it started to thrive once again in the US. In the past few years it has made a comeback and is now one of the fastest growing forms of motorcycle competition. Other common names for supermoto are supermotard or super tt.

Supermoto racing combines elements of road-racing, dirt track/TT, and motocross. The courses usually include a road-racing section and a dirt section with one or more jumps. Supermoto is one of the fastest growing forms of motorcycle competition in the US.

How do I get started? Well the answer is simple, its pretty much "run what ya brung", as there are many classes to suit your needs. Check with your local supermoto series to see what classes are for you. The cheapest way generally however, is to run Sportsman class, which is all stock dirtbikes and simply changint out the knobbies for a tires that will work better on the street. One of the cheapest and best tires for running this class that I have found are the Kenda K657 Challenger's. At $70 a set you really cant go wrong and they don't do too bad either!

For more information on supermoto you might want to check out supermotojunkie.com or smhooligans.com, as it is a great place to find info on bike setup, track practice days, racing schedules and any other info related to supermoto.

Generally bike setup includes, 17" rims, slicks, a 320mm front rotor, SS brake lines, 4 piston caliper, suspension lowered 1.5-2" as well as being revalved, hand guards and axple sliders are always a good idea too. Motostrano.com has some killer packges if you looking at getting started!
